Program Overview

  • The Medical Office Administration graduate diploma program is designed to make professionals who can efficiently handle all the medical office errands. This program emphasizes medical office procedures, clinical/medical terminology, human anatomy, OHIP billing, medical transcription, use of computerized health application software, computer skills required for office administration, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Medical Office Administration graduates are competitively qualified to work as Medical Office Administrator, Medical secretary, Doctor’s Office Administrator, Medical Transcriptionist, Medical Office Assistant, Front Office Administrator. Students are required to successfully complete 180 hours of co-op work experience to obtain a diploma in Medical Office Administration. A hands-on practical experience is imparted in the co-op through performing daily activities in a medical office environment including registration of patients, scheduling of appointments, OHIP billing, maintenance of inventory and ordering supplies for medical and office administration, filling, answering telephone calls, and maintenance of patient’s records. NACPT pharmaceutical faculty members are recognized experts. Our curriculum engages the students in experiential learning through intensive training, industrial workshops, guest speaker’s sessions, project work to foster their growth in the Medical Office Administration sector.

  • Use of various modules to coordinate communications and collaborations with others.

APA005 - Study of Basic Human Anatomy

Course Description

  • Introduction to Human Anatomy.
  • Basic principles of using Scientific Terminology of Medical Terms in Anatomy and Physiology.

APA006 - Clinical / Medical Procedures

Course Description

  • Various Medical Procedures and Examinations.
  • Emergency Medical Procedures and guidelines for Emergency care.

APA007 - Medical Terminology

Course Description

  • Introduction to medical terminology.
  • Technical and legal aspects of medical transcription.

APA008 - Stress Management

Course Description

  • Various types of stress along with their symptoms.
  • Coping mechanisms.

APA009 - Computer Health Application Software

Course Description

  • Excellent working knowledge of the OSCAR EMR.

APA0010 - QuickBooks

Course Description

  • Overview of QuickBooks for accounting for small to medium-sized businesses.
  • QuickBooks content from the company’s perspective.

APA0011 - Resume Workshop / Interpersonal and Communications Skills

Course Description

  • Writing impressive resumes and cover letters.
  • Developing interview and communication skills.

APA0012 - CPR and First Aid Certification

Course Description

  • Training in CPR and first aid.
  • Emergency Care tactics.

A comprehensive skill set is developed in the following areas through this program:

  • Appointments and scheduling
  • Registration of patients and maintain their records
  • Complete patients’ forms, documents, and case histories 
  • Complete insurance and other claim forms 
  • OHIP billing
  • Initiate and maintain confidential medical files and records
  • Order supplies and maintains inventory
  • Establish and maintain office procedures and routines

International Students

  4. Students without an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent must write the Wonderlic Assessment Test.
  5. Students who are or above 18 years of age should pass the Wonderlic Contemporary Cognitive Ability Test. (The assessment will help measure the cognitive ability and problem-solving aptitude of prospective employees
    for a range of occupations.)
  6. Students are required to submit a Police clearance certificate.
